Adelaide Comets Seniors Coach, Theo Tsiounis, has said that Friday night’s 3-2 win over Campbelltown City, felt like more than a standard league match.
“It felt like a finals game that was played at a good intensity,” he noted.
“Campbelltown have been one of the teams to beat this season so it was great to be able to get a result against a quality side.”
Comets continue their tough run of matches at the business end of the season this weekend with Round 20 against third placed, Adelaide City. The match comes after Round 18 against second placed MetroStars (a 1-1 draw) and Round 19 against first placed Campbelltown City.
This will be the third encounter for Comets against Adelaide City, having played them once previously in the League as well as in the Cup competition; Comets coming away victorious in both previous matches.
“It has been a tough month with a busy schedule and difficult games; this weekend against Adelaide City is no different.” said Tsiounis.
“City are a good side that has improved as the season has progressed and I am anticipating an exciting game.”
Following Round 20, the Comets Senior team will travel to Perth for their FFA Cup Round of 32 match against State League 1 side, Gwelup Croatia SC.
Comets travel on Tuesday prior to the game on Wednesday night (25 July) and then will again get back to the League on the following Saturday against South Adelaide. Tsiounis acknowledges that it will be trying but is looking forward to the challenge.
“It is an exciting time for the club,” he said.
“We are in the position we want to be in, with one eye on the Cup and the other on the League.
“Moving into finals football or Cup games, we want to make sure that we are continuing to improve.”
